What happens when #DEI becomes DOA in the #aerospace industry?
Last month a nonprofit that recognizes exceptional undergraduate #women and gender #minorities with #space and# aviation internships, the #BrookeOwensFellowship, announced its latest class of "#Brookies."
They may be the last class of Brookies to receive aerospace internships. The reason for this is an executive order signed by President Trump on Jan 20 to end diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, or DEI.

Just saw an excellent convo about affirmations for #masculine people. I got happy. Then I got sad when I remembered what's happening in the USA. We're being dragged backward at an alarming rate. We're back to struggling merely to affirm that #women, #LGBTQIA+ people, ethnic/racial #minorities, people with #disabilities, etc. deserve the same rights as everyone else, and to be free from harassment and violence. "Advanced" things like how stereotypes about #men (and similar topics) support and entrench #patriarchy seem like almost luxuries at this point. I feel like I'm going to spend all my day-to-day social justice time explaining to people that trans and queer and #Black and #Native and #Hispanic and #autistic and female people are human for the next few years. Ugh.

#HotTake: Every #human should be entitled by international #law to free, unseizeable #ID documents in the form of a travel #passport to evidence their #identity and have #FreedomOfMovement as well as a chance to #flee.

Why?

Headline: The Trump Administration Has Made 150 Million American Workers Newly Vulnerable to Workplace Discrimination

Source: Center for American Progress

From the article: "Essentially, all employees and job seekers, a total of approximately 153 million Americans, benefit from the protections the EEOC provides. The Equal Pay Act—a law requiring equal pay for equal work that the EEOC enforces—covers virtually all employers, while other laws enforced by the EEOC apply to all but the smallest employers. Whether they work in the private sector or for the government, practically all employees and those applying for jobs are protected by the EEOC against illegal employer actions" (Annotations removed for clarity)

Continued thread

" #Trump said... his conclusion that diversity had something to do with the crash was “common sense”...

There was lots of advice on #SocialMedia for #political reporters – which they didn’t take.

...Dan Murphy offered this suggestion: “Do not write ‘Trump blamed #DEI.’ Spell out what he’s saying. ‘Trump blamed #women, #black people, and other #minorities for the mid-air collision.’ Follow up with: ‘He did not specify which black people or women.’”"

For me, #2025 will be "The Year of the Marginalized." (Or the Margins.)

It won't be perfect, but essentially I'm going for 80% of the media I consume is written / directed / created by or starring people from marginalized populations. Music is impacted too, though likely by creating marginalized-centric playlists and listening to those.

If the name seems familiar, it echoes 1992 in the US after the election which was called "The Year of the Woman."

I'm definitely up for suggestions, though of course no guarantees.

The contrast--the majority--is to me for purposes of this, white, straight, male, US or England since they have an inordinate amount of influence over everything. And marginalized is basically everyone else. (FYI, I am white, male-presenting and in the US.)

To be clear, it's not to remove the majority, just to find more balance in what I consume.
