I was reading - with a mug of tea - The Patch (link above) by John McPhee, a decades-old favourite author of mine - and came across this short essay amongst many fine others…

Stanley Cup playoffs are just around the corner, starting this weekend.

I'll post some #data #visualization #dataviz for each team pairs before the playoffs start. First, we'll start with the eastern conference. Atlantic, we'll first have the battle of #Ontario with #Toronto #MapleLeafs vs #Ottawa #Senators. These are rolling 5 days #metrics for each team, allowing for easy comparison. #hnom #stanleycup #nhl #hockey

I recently discovered that diagnostic plugs in cars were more or less standard (OBD2) and that you could buy a plug reader for like 30 bucks. I also discovered that some OBD2 prometheus exporters exist.

So now basically my new project is to have a server in my car, like a RPi. It would srcap the OBD2 data locally and backfill it into my home prometheus database whenever the car gets into my home wifi range.

HIGHLIGHTS:
• Proposed U-ViT model based on Prithvi GFM for multi-sensor glacial lake mapping.
• Achieved an F1 score of 0.894 on Sentinel-1&2, surpassing CNNs scoring below 0.8.
• Maintains strong performance with 50% less training data, proving efficiency.
• Excels in detecting small lakes (<0.01km²) and handling clouds and complex terrains..."

How to visualize #server #metrics in #RealTime via #TCP in @LabPlot ?

The purpose of this simple tutorial is not to position LabPlot against dedicated applications, but rather to show how its "Live Data" functionality can be used.

Update. Confirming the study above, a new study finds that when new #species are added to the endangered species list, the research documenting the danger comes much more often from low-JIF journals than from high-JIF journals. The authors call for new impact metrics to take this into account.

PS: There are two related conclusions here. Academic incentives for high-JIF publications lead scientists away from research that might help save endangered species. Helping save endangered species is an important kind of impact that fails to register on prevailing impact metrics.

www.nature.comWant to get a species protected? Publish in a small, niche journalStudies are more likely to influence conservation law if they are published in specialist journals — but researchers worry that their true impact is being ignored in hiring and promotion decisions.
