It looked and felt more like winter in part of #Texas after a hailstorm coated the ground in ice and caused the temperature to plunge almost 40 degrees.

" When a thunderstorm hits on a hot day, it can quickly reduce the temperature from 90 degrees Fahrenheit to 70, but to get much colder, you need hail -- and a lot of it.

"Harry Weinman witnessed such a storm on Wednesday evening in Marathon, Texas. Weinman told AccuWeather that his car thermometer dropped from 93 to 53 degrees in a few minutes. Quarter-sized hail piled up several inches deep and stripped leaves from the trees, changing the landscape into what looked like a winter wonderland. "

"Extreme heat, destructively strong winds and a consequential #hail storm — all accompanied by #flooding — tormented central Mexico beginning on Friday.

"Meanwhile in #MexicoCity, capitalinos sweltered in the extreme heat all weekend. Sunday was the third consecutive day in which a record was set. The mercury hit 33.8 degrees Celsius (93˚F), which is a new all-time record for May 26.

"A day earlier, the temperature topped out at 34.7C, surpassing the all-time record set on May 9. Friday’s high also climbed above 34C, setting a new record for May 24."

Going into the hail of the supercell storm that I was chasing in the valley around Firebaugh, CA. This wasn’t even the center of the precipitation core. So, this just hammered down on us in Zumaia. Never seen hail nearly as big and I'm pretty sure it's not normal here in the N Atlantic coast of the Bay of Biscay. At all. In any case, scary stuff. I hope nobody got hurt.
