Congrats to Helen Mazalon on winning the "best speaker" prize at #geomobLON last night. The "Satellites and Seeds" project uses OpenStreetMap and GIS to help reduce hunger in northern Uganda. They also added 10,319 new hut buildings to the data!
Yesterday, I attended Geomob London for an evening of fascinating talks about maps. As always, the talks were excellent. The event was hosted at Geovation in Clerkenwell, where, rather unexpectedly, they had cavolo nero and bok choy growing in the reception.
8/ Last but not least we heard from Jack Maddalena, founder of Naurt https://www.naurt.com/ a geocoding service working to solve the "last meter" problem.
5/ @Mprioleau Marc Prioleau of the Overture Maps Foundation was next, detailing exactly what Overture is and isn't, and the progress they have made since launching 3 years ago
9/ With the talks done it was now time to vote for the SplashMaps best speaker prize ....
4/ 3rd speaker of the evening was Helen Mazalon, sharing a project she worked on to apply GIS skills to help most efficiently deploy resources to reduce poverty in northern Uganda
