Lanie Carmelo<p>Hello, fellow <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/ActuallyAutistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActuallyAutistic</span></a> and <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/Neurodivergent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Neurodivergent</span></a> programmers! 🧠💻 I'm hoping to tap into our collective wisdom for some coding advice.</p><p>I'm currently working on my next <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/freeCodeCamp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freeCodeCamp</span></a> project - building a Pokémon Search App. As a blind, autistic programmer, I often find myself overwhelmed when starting new projects, especially when it comes to the JavaScript portions. HTML usually feels more straightforward to me, but JS can be a real challenge.</p><p>Some specific hurdles I'm facing:<br>1. Breaking down the project into manageable steps<br>2. Knowing where to start with the JS functionality<br>3. Dealing with the anxiety of facing a blank script.js file<br>4. Managing executive function to actually begin coding</p><p>I'm particularly nervous about:<br>- Implementing the search functionality<br>- Fetching and handling data from the PokeAPI<br>- Dynamically updating the DOM with search results</p><p>Do any of you have tips, strategies, or personal experiences to share about:<br>- Tackling new programming assignments without getting overwhelmed?<br>- Breaking down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces?<br>- Overcoming the initial anxiety of starting a new project?<br>- Specific techniques for handling JavaScript challenges?<br>- Tools or resources that have been particularly helpful for neurodivergent coders?</p><p>I'm also curious about how other blind or visually impaired developers approach these challenges. Any assistive tech recommendations or coding techniques that have been game-changers for you?</p><p>Your insights could really help me and potentially other neurodivergent coders facing similar challenges. Let's share our experiences and build a supportive coding community!</p><p><a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/AskingAutistics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AskingAutistics</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/AutisticInTech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AutisticInTech</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/NeurodivergentCoding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeurodivergentCoding</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/WebDevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WebDevelopment</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/CodingTips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CodingTips</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/ProgrammingHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProgrammingHelp</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/Accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/BlindProgrammers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlindProgrammers</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/freeCodeCamp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freeCodeCamp</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/PokeAPI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PokeAPI</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/ExecutiveFunction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ExecutiveFunction</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/CodingAnxiety" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CodingAnxiety</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/SupportiveComm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SupportiveComm</span></a></p>
