The North Ayrshire battery recycling plant, very respectful of the environment and one of the "key" for fighting global warming, has just exploded.

The amount of released toxins is equivalent to that of 1,000 trucks with poorly tight diesel engines that circulated without stopping for more than 10 years, according to reports.

Global EV adoption fails to cut CO₂
Coal-fired power plants are among electricity sources - this has been troubling me too - if people buy more #EVs, the extra power needed will have to come from some reserve, and in most places that means #fossilFuels, as they're not going to build extra renewable capacity for the extra EVs. Only when
renewable energy is abundant and has reserves will the switch be reliably a bonus. eurekalert.org/news-releases/1

"Rules on #UK #car firms relaxed ahead of 2030 #petrol vehicles ban - BBC News"
One huge thing that government must do to get more people buying #EVs is to get more charging points installed. That includes on-street chargers outside homes with no driveways, and many more public charging places

Sorry, but China EV manufacturer BYD just kicked Tesla’s ass around the block and then some.

They aren’t even in the same game.

Active magnetic suspension, 4-motor drive 1300hp, independent turning on every wheel. It can literally climb stairs, u-turn in place on a narrow road & shift itself sideways to park.

I would totally drive this beast if I could afford it. I don’t give AF that it’s chinese. Amazing tech. 😲

Grist: What Tesla’s massive image problem means for the world’s transition to EVs

Tesla has long been a leader in the electric vehicles market. Now it's facing mounting protests and plummeting sales.

"...Tesla’s status as the Kleenex of EVs is now in question. After Musk’s full-throated endorsement of President Donald Trump, his Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration, and his efforts to dismantle the United States government under the auspices of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, Tesla is facing an organized protest movement, fading sales around the world, and a tumbling stock market valuation. ..."

Grist · What Tesla’s massive image problem means for the world’s transition to EVsBy Paul Krantz

InstaVolt extends off-peak charging hours from 20:00-07:00. This must make it very appealing to anybody who doesn't have AC charging options... some of our neighbours just charge once a week at the council charger -this will provide a alternative option nearby with two more charging bays and more reliability.

This makes a lot of sense for them: I've already invested the capital in the chargers and back-end systems, this should keep the chargers busy during quiet times and if it causes some people to reschedule their charging -that provides more capacity at peak times.

Petrol stations never reduce their fuel prices at offbeat times or when it is sunny or windy.

@randahl they keep on saying that resale of #evs is poor and car yards are full of them. If a secondhand EV is so cheap, it seems a no-brainer that that’s good value, especially as it seems that manufacturers have underestimated the life of the battery by 30%.

Where are the cheapest raw materials for new batteries? The cost of finding extracting shipping new materials is part of building new EVs.

Porsche has found the cheapest source. Old batteries.

Brilliant.
