"The Pitt" — a critically acclaimed medical drama starring Noah Wyle, but not that one — finished its 15-episode first season last week. Pop Heist's Matthew Jackson unpacks its appeal. "This is, arguably more than any other streaming series out there right now, a show that thrives on the classic serialized TV model — and it works so well that every other TV creator out there should sit up and take note," he writes.

Noah Wyle is back in scrubs for "The Pitt," after avoiding them for 15 years post "ER." Ahead of the show finale, he talked to @Variety about how the show got made, the lawsuit that claims "The Pitt" is an "ER" reboot, being back in the limelight, and his reverence for medical professionals, “These people sacrifice so much in the service of others that I find it absolutely infuriating that their expertise is being called into question,” he says. “I find it infuriating that we still can’t come to a consensus that masks cut down on transmission of disease. I find it infuriating that we still won’t acknowledge that vaccines are an important way of eradicating disease. I find it all infuriating that we are where we are right now. So I wanted to make a show that brings back into sharp focus what an objective medical fact is.”

From the very beginning, #ER would often have important messages in their episodes, such as blood donor posters prominently placed in certain scenes.

In S09E17, in the staff room, there's a poster declaring, "Cure autism now". I don't know a lot about the history of how autism research and care has changed, but fascinating to think they thought it could be completely cured.

Our #Mission hospital system, currently being run into the ground by #HCA has made yet another step to keep our #ER from functioning safely.

This is after the system was placed in "immediate jeopardy" last year by CMS due to unsafe conditions, AND after a patient recently died in an ER bathroom.

HCA, of course, blames one employee whom it fired, rather than the meager staffing levels and overworked employees which are our reality.

The #Trump admin on Wed moved to drop an #EmergencyAbortion case in #Idaho.

The #DOJ filed a motion to #dismiss the lawsuit, which was originally filed by the #Biden admin, in a reversal that could have national implications for #UrgentCare.

The suit had argued that #ER #doctors treating #pregnant women had to provide terminations if needed to save their lives or to avoid serious #health consequences in ID, which has one of the country’s strictest #AbortionBans.

Continuing my #ER watch, and Mark Greene is sick. I definitely remember watching the brain surgery the first time around, and crying when he later dies. Such a great show, so heartbreaking. #TV

..."Ventura County Emergency Medical Services officials.

They said that on Thursday the hospitals together reported only 68 available beds. Some emergency rooms have been seeing unprecedented numbers and intensive care units have been hit hard. The hospitals reported only three available ICU beds for adults across the county...."

Not the week to end up in the hospital, folks (or the ER). My son (a paramedic) apparently was recognized going to my relatives' retirement community (the guards at the gate recognized him because he goes there so often 😬 ) and the chitchat was apparently about how Los Robles Hospital had called them telling them to ONLY call for an ambulance if they have no other choice, as they are overloaded with patients. And, apparently, they asked if they might have room for less critical patients (they apparently have some space there for recovery patients -- those who need to be watched but don't need intensive medical care). #healthcare #ConejoValley #ThousandOaks #ER #health #hospitals

If you've been bereft since the greatest medical drama of all time finished in 2009 (it's "ER," we're not doing a poll because what other answer could there possibly be?!) then tonight is your night. Two episodes of "The Pitt" are landing on MAX, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays. The show is set in the emergency department of Pittsburgh Medical Trauma Hospital and was created by "ER" exec producer R. Scott Gemmill, with the pilot directed by "ER" showrunner John Wells. It also stars Noah Wyle as Dr. John Carter — oops, we mean Michael “Robby” Rabinovich, no longer a fresh-faced med student but now an empathetic attending physician. The estate of "ER" creator Michael Crichton has claimed it's an "un-authorized reboot," but @Variety says it's much more. Here's their review.

Variety · 'The Pitt' Review: 'ER' Vets Know What They're DoingBy Alison Herman

Tuesday and Wednesday weren't fun with my first atrial fibrillation experience. Zero stars, would not recommend. I WOULD recommend the Samsung Watch... it identified what was going on. After 5 hours in the ER, I'm feeling better. I'll be wearing this heart monitor for 14 days, and I have more doctor appointments ahead, but I'm okay. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent's / Intermountain Health!
