TanjaThis is a very special piece. In one of my yarn surprise boxes, there was this crazy luxurious yarn: 40% Wool - Merino 25% Camelid - Llama 20% Silk 15% Cellulose - Linen / Flax I was almost scared to use it and searched the longest time for a fitting project. TanjaThe pattern for this beauty is called "Dandelion Lane" and the yarn I used reminded me of a Dandelion growing out of a street. Amazing little resilient plants! Also - the shawl has Glitter. Most things are better with Glitter. TanjaOh, I almost forgot about this beauty! I used 2 Yarncakes and alternated them; I ended up using about 1824 m yarn. It's a pattern by a polish designer, essentially it's just charts and I was so proud that I managed to make it. Being able to read crochet charts opens up a whole new world beyond language barriers. I love it. TanjaI told you I temporarily became a mad hatter when I discovered making my own strawhats. :D Here I used a chiffon cloth as a hatband - it's actually a juggling cloth usually used by kids to learn juggling. :-) This hat was claimed by my aunt for gardening, and I'm glad it has a good home with her. What is interesting here is that I used a slightly different paper yarn. Most Raffia will be broad and flat, but some are rolled and round and more yarn-like. See second picture for a direct comparison. This will in the end have an impact on your gauge and the size of your project, so it's a good thing to know. TanjaDid you know that you can crochet your own Strawhat with Raffia? Raffia is a Paperyarn and while a hat made from it won't survive a bath, it is otherwise really quite durable. I made the hat in the picture in 2023 and it was my almost daily companion during the past two summers and will be again this summer. It can totally be squished into a bag and pulled out when needed. The first picture with the red ribbon most definitely gives me One Piece Ruffy vibes. :D I ended up exchanging the ribbon for an old chiffon scarf (see second picture). I will share some other, colorful versions later this week. (thanks for the encouragement!) We lovingly call him Shroomie. It's both great and dangerous when the grocery store across the street also carries yarn for your basic yarnie needs and allows you to get supplies for spontanous projects. TanjaIf you are a techie and use your Smartwatch or phone for everything, this little project is probably not for you. If you are a bit oldfashioned like me, then it might be a cool idea. :D (I'm so oldfashioned, that I don't get the smilies to work. Just sayin'.) Some years ago I had to go to a company event and I didn't feel like taking a big purse with me. I came across the pattern for this bracelet/pocket. I made the beads from Fimo (polymer clay) to match my outfit and it was really perfect. (of course, you could use any beads that you like with a big enough hole). It fit my card and some cash for the taxi ride home. I could pay for my drinks by simply swiping my wrist over the card reader. Events and many people make me nervous, so the beads were perfect for me as a fiddle toy.
