A credible set of real medical researchers <a href="https://ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/AIoa2400802" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">published a random control trial</a> where people with eating disorders were assigned one of two treatments: <strong>absolutely nothing</strong> or a chatbot. The result of this RCT appears to be that something is better than nothing. Who would have guessed? I mean, I guess this supports a conclusion that using a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/chatbot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chatbot</span></a> <em>was not worse</em> than nothing. Take a victory lap.</p><p>I know there are better Science People™ out there than me. Haven't there been an awful lot of studies that show almost any explicit treament of a condition is better than nothing? I thought there was some finding beyond just the placebo effect. The placebo effect, interestingly enough, also works <em><a href="https://www.wired.com/story/open-label-placebo-why-does-it-work/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">when participants know its a placebo</a>!</em></p><p>1/2</p>

It would point me to a source of information, I could decide for myself if the source was good or not. But not anymore. Recently I just wasted a lot of time trying to find something using a search engine only to get lost in an ocean of AI slop.</p><p>I finally gave in and asked my question to ChatGPT and it answered my question perfectly, it even showed me where it got it’s sources of information. The places it linked me to were either no longer existent (if ever) or only vaguely related. But it at least <strong>created the appearance</strong> of citing factual sources of information, in whatever way the statistical models have been trained to give that impression to the humans who use it.</p><p>In Orwell’s novel “1984,” we saw how a single government agency took all control over information, how the staff would keep a database of facts but constantly alter these facts to fit the view of reality that their despot “Big Brother” wanted the citizens to believe. Sascha 😈 ⁂ (Fediverse)<p><strong><strong>Was wären sinnvolle Anwendungen für KI Chatbots in Sozialen Netzwerken?</strong></strong></p><p><br>Ich persönlich sehe das Thema KI Chatbots als äußerst problematisch an, Stichwort Desinformation und Manipulation. Allerdings könnten solche Bots natürlich auch positive Funktionen haben. Man stelle sich nur mal als Beispiel einen ARD-Bot vor, den man in einem Beitrag erwähnt und dann nach Nachrichten in einen bestimmten Themengebiet fragt und der dann erst eine kurze Einführung und darunter Links zu aktuellen Artikeln und Hintergründen liefert. Das wäre in meinen Augen eine sinnvolle Anwendung. Einziges Problem das bleibt, ist der Energieverbrauch und das so was natürlich auch aus einer unseriösen Quelle wie z.
