Drivers have been earning tens of millions since the 1980s. In his last contract in 1994 with Williams, #AyrtonSenna was supposed to earn 20 M$, equivalent to 42 M$ today.
Also consider that a football player like Cristiano Ronaldo, at the sunset of his career, is still earning some 100 M$/a.
