A rather gorgeous red sandstone Edwardian townhouse on Kensington Gate in the West End of Glasgow looking fabulous in the sunshine. Dating from 1902, it was designed by David Barclay.
The Buck's Head Hotel (left), complete with the head of a male deer above its door from which it presumably took its name, on Argyle Street in Glasgow. It started life as a Georgian mansion built for John Murdoch in the 1750s before becoming a rather fashionable hotel in the 1790s.

I love this 1905 tenement building at Parkhead Cross in Glasgow. Designed Crawford and Veitch, its distinctive corner tower was based on one on the Canal Boatmen's Institute at Port Dundas, which, in turn, was in based on a tower from Glasgow University's Old College campus on High Street. Neither of these still exist.
Love the repeating pattern created by these dormer windows on a terrace of 1870s townhouses on Highburgh Road in the Hyndland area of Glasgow.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will spot my dog reflected in the glass door as she patiently waits for me to stop interupting her morning walk once again with yet more photographs of buildings!
A 14th Century arch used to create an entrance into a late 20th Century museum building. This is the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park in Glasgow, designed by Barry Gasson Architects and opened in 1983. This is one of several old stone arches incorporated into the building, including the 16th Century Hornby Portal, through which the main part of the museum is entered.

A French Renaissance style tenement overlooking Queen's Park on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed by W.M. Whyte and built in 1885, it's close to being the pinnacle of the city's tenement building tradition.
The entrance hall to Pollok House on the Southside of Glasgow. Pollok House was built in 1752, but this entrance hall was added by R. Rowand Anderson in 1890.
Love the Zodiac-themed column capitals on the 1890s former Sun Life building on the corner of West George Street and Renfield Street in central Glasgow. This is the one for Gemini, and the slightly surprised expression on the faces of the two fish always makes me smile.
The former James Buchanan and Co warehouse on Washington Street in Glasgow. Designed by A. Gardner in 1897, with additions by H.E. Clifford in 1907, at the time it was built it was the largest bonded whisky warehouse in the world.
I don't often photograph buildings, especially modern buildings, but I couldn't pass up the angles, lines, and repeating patterns of these two buildings in Austin, Texas.
Sunset this evening over the tenements on Clarence Drive in the Hyndland area of Glasgow.
It's really quite a dramatic change, but shows that the City Improvement Trust seem to have selected a style for their new buildings that at least tried to tie in with the architecture it was replacing.
I was flicking through a copy of Bygone Glasgow, published in 1896, and came across this sketch of what is described a 'close in Saltmarket' from 1874 (on the left). This is very different from the current Saltmarket cityscape, which is dominated by Scottish 17th Century style tenements erected by the City Improvement Trust in the 1880s and 1890s (on the right).
