NOAA contracts are being reviewed one by one. It's throwing the agency into chaos

The secretary of commerce is personally reviewing all contracts with commitments above $100,000 at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, causing backups and uncertainty in the agency that is responsible for the country's weather forecasts, marine fisheries management and coastal management. NOAA is housed within the Department of Commerce.

"Lots of stuff will break," a NOAA staffer said. "It's just a matter of time."

Good morning tooters, it’s currently a very pleasant 10-11c a very perfect #Autumn morning heading to a warm 26c. There is dew on the grass & some ratbag bird has made a big mess in my centre garden bed 😠.
I went to bed early last night as I developed a headache & my neck felt out. I knew I should have made extra trips with removing the soil in the old raised garden bed, but I always think I can carry that bit more 😬. A good nights sleep 🛌 & a change of pillow again helped.
I’m meeting with a girlfriend for coffee ☕️ this morning & we’ve chosen the local garden centre cafe, we both like it there & they cater well for gluten free which my friend is. I’m also thinking that I just might head out for a swim 🏊🏼‍♀️ this afternoon with the weather being warmer. Take the opportunity while the weather is so nice.
It’s #HumpDay, I hope everyone enjoys their #Wednesday - stay safe out there 🌻. #Weather #Garden #Friends #Exercise #AutumnDays

One year ago today I watched the #SolarEclipse in Arkansas. The two total eclipses I've seen have been magnificent to a level that is difficult to describe to those who haven't seen totality.

Here's our photos, experience, and the #weather data I recorded.

In March 2025, heavy rain in Queensland, #Australia caused severe flooding across the Australian outback. Some areas got more than a year's worth of rain in a week, leading to rising waters in Channel Country. Small towns and farms in southwestern Queensland were left underwater.

National Weather Service no longer translating products for non-English speakers

The NWS is no longer providing #language translations of its products, a change that experts say could put non-English speakers at risk of missing potentially life-saving warnings about extreme weather.

The #weather service has “paused” the translations because its contract with the provider has lapsed.
