CLondoner92 (New Account)<p>The Grade II listed canopy at Whitley Bay <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Metro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metro</span></a> station has been restored as part of a two-year project under the Metro Asset Renewal Programme by <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Nexus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nexus</span></a> Tyne and Wear. The multi-million-pound initiative, which serves 1.2 million customers annually, included the installation of 1,296 new glass panes, strengthening and repainting steelwork, and new lighting, CCTV, and a public address system. The canopy's original glazing above the tracks has been reinstated. The station remained open throughout the works, with minimal disruption. The project was managed by Nexus and Kier Group, enhancing Whitley Bay as a key gateway to North <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Tyneside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tyneside</span></a>. Local businesses, including a café, bar, and yoga studio, stayed operational. The station, listed in 1986, will undergo further restoration of the historic footbridge.<br><a href="https://www.nexus.org.uk/news/item/whitley-bay-metro-station-canopy-restored-its-former-glory" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">nexus.org.uk/news/item/whitley</span><span class="invisible">-bay-metro-station-canopy-restored-its-former-glory</span></a></p>

A professional voiceover artist, Mark’s soothing voice provides essential route information to Metro passengers daily. He runs his own <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/media" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>media</span></a> company in <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Gateshead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gateshead</span></a> and records the audio in a voiceover booth. Mark, 46, from Hebburn, South <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Tyneside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tyneside</span></a>, enjoys his unique role, often surprising people when they learn it’s him behind the announcements. He’s excited to voice the new Metro <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/trains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trains</span></a>, noting the impressive <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>technology</span></a>. Mark's career started in local radio, later branching into ads for major artists like Tom Jones and Robbie Williams. Voiceovers run in the family, with his wife, Amanda, also a voiceover artist, and his son, William, even nominated for a voiceover award.<br><a href="https://www.nexus.org.uk/news/item/revealed-voice-tyne-and-wear-metro" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">nexus.org.uk/news/item/reveale</span><span class="invisible">d-voice-tyne-and-wear-metro</span></a></p>
