also as usual took a wrong turn under the tunnel and reached the other side of Sydney.

like seriously, navigating the underground tunnels is a pain because no GPS, so maps stops updating directions. I can't touch the phone per NSW laws, so I have to 'wing' it and since I don't drive enough, I end up in random places.

Today's case, I was supposed to reach North Sydney over Harbour Bridge missing the exit meant I ended up in Drummoyne

Took the grandies (7 and 5) to Taronga Zoo for the day. 5:30 up, just got home at 20:00. Bloody long day, but Sydney harbour really turned it on. Beautiful weather for a beautiful harbour, and the zoo has improved out of sight since my first visit somewhere around 1967. Two exhausted grandies and two exhausted grandparents. A fantastic and fun day with no agro or meltdowns, not even by me!

Day 20 💰💰🏭🏦🛢️☢️🕍⛪🙏🔥

“spin-off of the US-based #CPAC – short for Conservative Political Action Conference – the #Sydney-based outfit described itself as a “values-based” organisation that “espouses the best of #Howard, #Reagan and #Thatcher while exploring new ideas and themes for the coming generations”.

Guests at the August event included #OneNation senator Pauline Hanson, Michelle Pearse, the CEO of the #AustralianChristianLobby, and broadcaster and soon-to-be alleged sex offender, #AlanJones.

Overseas talent included Jay Aeba, chairman of the Japanese Conservative Union and Heather Wilson, mother of six and co-founder of #GiveSendGo, a #Christian #crowdfunding network which has helped raise money for #NeoNazis and #AntiVaxxers

“Then, in 2018, investment banker and long-time #ClimateConspiracist Maurice Newman, billionaire storage king Sam Kennard, and David Adler, of the #FarRight Australian Jewish Association (AJA), got together to form #AdvanceAustralia. Money was no problem: #HedgeFund manager and #Liberal Party donor Simon Fenwick tipped in $190,000; a further $400,000 came from Sydney #Establishment couple Rodney and Judith O’Neil, and the Taylor #winemaking family.

Advance pitched itself as a champion of the #SilentMajority#HowardsBattlers 2.0. But its real concerns were better expressed by another early backer, #hotelier James Power, who was then engaged in a battle to prevent women from becoming members of #Brisbane’s #Tattersall’s Club.”

If you noticed a darker turn to the election this week, here’s a good explanation of the WHY and HOW. Also I see Tony 🧅 got a new job.

"The cost of major contracts for a motorway to Sydney’s new international airport has surged again, this time by $152 million, piling financial pressure on the project jointly funded by the federal and state governments.

"Tender documents show the estimated cost of the western section of the M12 motorway has risen by $78 million to $659 million, and the central part by $47 million to $510 million. In addition, two contracts for design work by consultants have almost doubled to $68 million.

"Greens transport spokeswoman Cate Faehrmann said the government did not question forking out millions of dollars more when costs inevitably blew out for new motorways, yet baulked at providing reliable public transport services for south-west Sydney."

“'The public needs to be reassured that the highest level of scrutiny is being applied to these massive contracts by the government, particularly when costs are regularly revised upwards at a tune of millions of dollars at a time,' she said."

A couple of thoughts on this one.

First, this is yet another example of how the neoliberal infrastructure procurement policies that Australia has imported from America and Britain have led to more expensive infrastructure.

You don't save money by cutting back on public servants, and outsourcing the design and management of big infrastructure projects to the private sector.

Secondly, the Minns government's decision to cut back on the proposed additional metro links to the Western Sydney Airport, yet keep the motorways, us looking particularly foolish.

#Keating was still the prime minister, #Kennett was premier of #Victoria. The highest selling song of the year in this country was Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio. Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers had been out for four years but still held sway over the entire universe.

There was a band in #Sydney called Def FX who were winning awards and telling us in song titles and lyrics – with a metal/hiphop backbeat – about "ritual", "magik" and "psychoactives".

This was what was in the wind. It was commercial music, the #TripleJ staple of the day, and #Cranky came and went so very quickly within all of this with 2 Bugs and a song called Australia Don't Become America, otherwise known as "Straya Don Come Merica". It was influenced by the above – the sound and the fury – and in particular by Rage Against The Machine, Disposible Heroes of Hiphroprisy, Public Enemy, Pop Will Eat Itself and EMF”
