This achievement follows a successful trial allowing <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/dogs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dogs</span></a> on <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/trams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trams</span></a>, with over 1,800 dogs onboard so far. Since public control was regained, £15.3 million has been invested to improve the network, leading to increased passenger numbers, higher revenue, and 97% tram reliability for 2024/2025. The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority plans to purchase a new tram fleet by 2032, contingent on government funding. The £100 million capital improvement programme aims to further enhance the network. Mayor Oliver Coppard praised the progress and reaffirmed his commitment to a world-class public transport system for South Yorkshire. Supertram operates on 100% renewable energy, with accessible trams and stops.<br><a href="https://www.southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk/news/article/733f63e8-fde1-4a92-b4c4-07a53ed6d199" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk/news/</span><span class="invisible">article/733f63e8-fde1-4a92-b4c4-07a53ed6d199</span></a></p>

From 21 March, dogs will be allowed to travel on trams, following existing policies on buses and trains. Each passenger can bring one well-behaved dog on <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Supertram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Supertram</span></a>. The trial's outcome will decide if the rule becomes permanent.<br><a href="https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/news/a79c357e-d5fb-4a11-a97c-3abbf6b4fe5d" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb</span><span class="invisible">/news/a79c357e-d5fb-4a11-a97c-3abbf6b4fe5d</span></a></p>
Trantion<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://urbanists.social/@straphanger" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>straphanger</span></a></span> I remember something similar in <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Sheffield" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sheffield</span></a> almost 20 years ago. I used to take the <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Supertram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Supertram</span></a> to a supermarket in Hillsborough, and on the way back in rush hour you could be stood at the stop for 10-15 minutes, with the tram in sight, before it covered the 250m to the stop.</p><p>Then the council announced they were putting up cameras to enforce the existing tram gate. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, then all the problems suddenly stopped and everyone forgot about it.</p>
