One year ago today I watched the #SolarEclipse in Arkansas. The two total eclipses I've seen have been magnificent to a level that is difficult to describe to those who haven't seen totality.

When you don't have enough cloud cover to act as a nice filter for the sun, but also just enough for everything to be hazy, it's time to go old school lofi to watch the partial solar eclipse.

You can also see structures (mountains, rims of craters and impact basins, etc.) at the lunar limb.

There are also sunspots (and groups of them) and solar faculae on the surface of the Sun.

Nun auch hier mein Schnappschuss von der #Sonnenfinsternis mit dem Handy. Als Filter wurde ein komplett dunkler Diafilm verwendet.

Hand hält schwarzen Diafilm, der als Filter verwendet wurde

Stark gezoomtes und dadurch leicht unscharf wirkendes Bild der partiellen Sonnenfinsternis auf dem Höhepunkt. Der Mond deckt oben rechts die Sonne ab. Durch den als Filter verwendeten schwarzen Diafilm erscheint das Bild leicht violett eingefärbt.

Phew – despite heavy cloud cover here in Heidelberg, there were a few breaks about 20 minutes after maximum partial eclipse, allowing me to get some pictures

Bonus large sunspot to the top left as well

Taken with my iPhone 15 through the eyepiece of my 15 x 70 binoculars.
