"Two Decades of Dust Radiative Forcing on Snow Cover Across the Great Salt Lake Basin" is a 2025 paper co-authored by many members of the Critical Zone Collaborative Network's Dust Cluster.
Read the paper here. Pairs well with any lunchtime snack.
Happy #MountainMonday! The point seen off in the distance is where I was headed as I began my descent last week from the summit shown in the pic at the beginning of this thread. The #snow/#ice-covered trail winds along the edge of a steep slope (including a cliff) before it disappears into the woods. Harsh conditions- blowing hard, snowing, frigid wind chill. A fun challenge! #hiking #mountains #nature
Midwinter view in Fairbanks, Alaska — low sun, deep snow, and frosted and snow-covered spruce.

Today was a bit of a weird one weather-wise. We left Glasgow in sunshine this morning to climb a couple of munros on the Ben Lawers range. By the time we were coming back down, it was snowing. As we drove back to Glasgow, the sun returned, and then by nightfall it was raining. Welcome to Spring in Scotland.
I thought the weather sages were off the mark when they predicted inches of #snow in #UpstateNewYork last night. I was dead wrong. I could hear the trees cracking outside. I bet we lose power.
As I approached the summit earlier this week, the trail steepened to the point that “ladders” (stairs) were installed to help hikers. However, the ladders (see pic from a previous summer) were completely covered with #snow and #ice making for a challenge in the ascent/descent. After starting with microspikes, I then put on full crampons to get down safely. #FootpathFriday #hiking #winter
Looks like April 11 is too early to get the deck cushions out of the shed. #snow
