Andrew Lewis Workshop<p>Attention all poultry keepers, fowl fanciers, bird herders, and chicken ticklers. Are you tired of hiding bodies? Do you baulk at the thought of concealing crimes beneath yet another patio or raised garden bed? Warn your visitors and save their lives. It's okay, chickens can't read. Yet. <br> <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1878253596/beware-of-chickens-metal-warning-sign" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">etsy.com/uk/listing/1878253596</span><span class="invisible">/beware-of-chickens-metal-warning-sign</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/farming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>farming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/farm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>farm</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/garden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>garden</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/chicken" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chicken</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/chickens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chickens</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/pets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pets</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/eggs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eggs</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/smallholding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smallholding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/selfSufficiency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfSufficiency</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/country" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>country</span></a></p>

Janet<p>In other news, the geese are filling their crops with grit from the molehills. Contrary to many farmers’ beliefs this does the geese (and their eggs) no harm. They have healthy digestive systems to deal with any naturally occurring soil bacteria and the grit helps them break down their diet of grass and grains. <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Permaculture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Permaculture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/SmallHolding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SmallHolding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Geese" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geese</span></a></p>

Becksy<p>The growing season was so delayed this year. Cold wet weather, plus living up in the mountains doesn’t help. Gruff Harding<p>Arguably it could be said that my 3rd generation chilli's are doing alright, now I just need to keep them alive until it's time to pop them in the glasshouse <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/smallholding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smallholding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/homegrown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homegrown</span></a></p>
Western Exposure<p>PSA<br>The "green pastures" image used to market free-range eggs is pretty much BS. Granted, it's better than no outdoor access at all. But domestic chickens are derived from Asian jungle fowl, their natural habitat being the forest edge. Out in the open they are vulnerable to predators. They still know that, 12,000 years of domestication later. <br>If you can find them and afford them: there are some (not nearly enough) examples of silvopasture poultry in the world.<br><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/chickens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chickens</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/smallholding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smallholding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/eggs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eggs</span></a></p>

I wanted to try to breed "ornamental" hens that laid a pretty blue or green small egg.and looked pretty itself but was a usable size..They are japanese bantram x so dont dig up gardens ,I use them as pest control ,they dont like wandering. So anyone could keep a few and not have to buy shop eggs with all the cruelty that goes with that and they can replace pesticides etc,Just need them to breed true now :)</p>
