Macleod Sawyer<p>I was talking with someone (or rather, typing) about different newer systems languages, such as Zig, Nim, D, Mojo, etc. </p><p>We brought up Nim, and while I would love to use it, their syntax (python-like), speed (compiles to C/C++), and their memory management (<em>ARC</em>, sort of a cross between a GC and a borrow checker) are decent enough. I just can't in good faith use it. </p><p>The creator is a BDFL1 2 but they are against setting up a foundation because they <em>"lost faith in mankind"</em> and then ranted about "master vs main" on git, and used that to segue into a mini-rant on essentially "woke" ideology. In less than 500 characters. </p><p>I get the vibe they might be racist, sexist, and just a bit out-of-touch with reality. I wouldn't trust having corporate code, or any code, built on it. Dude is a bit unhinged in that regard. </p><p><em>How to destroy your future and community in less than 100 words, speedrun edition.</em></p><p><a href="https://forum.nim-lang.org/t/10312" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">"Nim Forum: Nim Succession Plan, 2023"</a></p><p>1 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benevolent_dictator_for_life" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">BDFL: Benevolent Dictator for Life</a> </p><p>2 Not a bad thing in tech sometimes - look at Python via Guido Van Rossum, even though the title was removed in 2017, Walter Brite of D-Lang fame, or Linus Torvalds of Linux (obviously). </p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nim</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nimlang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nimlang</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nimrod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nimrod</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dlang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dlang</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/mojo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mojo</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/bdfl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bdfl</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dev</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/languages" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>languages</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/code" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>code</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/zig" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>zig</span></a></p>
