I just got an alert through the Harvard emergency messaging system: “Transit Police are reporting shots fired at the Harvard Sq MBTA station. CPD, Transit, State, and Harvard Police are searching the Square for the suspect. Shelter in place. Please enter the nearest building and stay there until all clear is given.”

For #WIPWednesday I can finally show you a thing I did. It's done now, but we couldn't share the info before our lace competition.

This is #Motif1 of #RockportMA in fiber form.

The competition was a particular "red thread" to use. I went to Rockport one day and was struck by this famous red fishing shack, and that's how we got here.

I did not win this year, but I love these challenges. The other entries: nelg.us/page-1857737

The #MBTA red line was Chefs-kiss!

A photograph I took of the red fishing shack in Rockport MA. It is a plain thing with sort of a red barn look, with a gray roof, but the side of it is covered with lobster buoys in various colors. They hang all over the back part of the shack. There is also a large Christmas wreath near the front of the building beneath a window. It's on a rocky granite wharf with poles to tie your boats to. It is low tide in this photo and the lower part of the wharf is a little greenish and darker with some seaweeds.
My tiny bobbin lace version of Motif #1 in progress. It's made in red linen and the challenge thread is a fatter red outline thread. I have made the front and side of the building in red linen. Small beads are added to make the hanging buoys off the side. I am currently working on the roof tiles with a fat grey thread and a thinner black thread. It's about 1/3 completed. I'm making it on a printout of the photo I took for getting the sizes of the sections right. There are loose thread ends all over the place that will eventually get hidden.
My completed entry for our lace competition. It has the wharf and poles made from burlap and toothpicks. The shack is complete and the threads all trimmed away. The chimney was added with a few brown beads on the roof point. It's on a blue fabric backing and attached to an "artist trading card" which is the required size of our pieces for our competition.

One of the best moments of the night was when we were passing a bus on Summer Street (the 7, I think) and got an extended series of short honks from the driver, cheering us on in her own way.

It's still #MBTA Driver Appreciation Month, and boy do I appreciate that Driver's encouragement.
