Solarpunk Presents Podcast<p>7.4: Enhancing the local values chain with community gardens feat. Doug Jones</p><p>In this episode, Ariel interviews Doug Jones from Waterloo Region Community Garden Network, and he discusses about how the Network was started, what it does, and the benefits of gardening for the health and wellbeing not only for you but for your entire community. We discuss gleaning, food insecurity, access to land, and much more; this is an episode you’re going to want to listen to, especially if rising cost of food and food security are concerns for you these days.</p><p>I (Ariel) have included some links to the local organizations he mentions, as well as some that expand on some of the topics we discussed, which you can check out in the YouTube description or on our blog.</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/SolarPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SolarPunk</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/SolarpunkPresentsPodcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SolarpunkPresentsPodcast</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/podcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>podcast</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/food" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>food</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FoodProduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FoodProduction</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/LandAccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LandAccess</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/CommunityGardens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityGardens</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/CommunityGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityGardening</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FoodSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FoodSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Ontario" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ontario</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/RegionOfWaterloo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RegionOfWaterloo</span></a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/jgj-6UCOkWY?si=M9jGWRTiBh8v3ZcZ" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/jgj-6UCOkWY?si=M9jGWR</span><span class="invisible">TiBh8v3ZcZ</span></a></p>
Adam Steer<p>...I guess a side benefit of the whole thing is an easy climbing partner filter now ;). </p><p>There are allies we really do not want in the recreational land access consensus building and consensus keeping process. The braying of the righteous culture warriors of the right is only ever long term harmful. It's a sum plus game, not zero sum winners/losers.. something a whole sector of the commentariat consistently fail at understanding.</p><p><a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/rockclimbing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rockclimbing</span></a> <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/landaccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>landaccess</span></a> <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/landback" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>landback</span></a></p>
Adam Steer<p>Ugh.. Australia's most prominent right wing shitrag has picked up rock climbing and "defence" of the rock climbing community as its current cause, wedging their way in on the (caused by white people) mishandling of doing better at cultural recognition and protection at the world-renowned <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/Dyurrite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dyurrite</span></a> / Mt Arapiles. </p><p>Might never climb at Dyurrite / Mt Arapiles again, it'll just feel wrong now. There's plenty of other beautiful rock on this island... </p><p><a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/rockclimbing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rockclimbing</span></a> <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/landaccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>landaccess</span></a> <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/landback" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>landback</span></a></p>
Adam Steer<p>...when it was white people all along.</p><p>Yes, absolutely, processes have been done wrongly. By white people.</p><p>So please, if you're a climber upset about Dyurrite / Arapiles - avoid yammering about your rights. Because you (we, I) have none without negotiation.</p><p>Focus instead on the white process and misrepresentation by white division makers who have caused fractures between traditional owners and climbers - especially those (white people) who profit from the outcome.</p><p><a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/rockclimbing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rockclimbing</span></a> <a href="https://mapstodon.space/tags/landaccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>landaccess</span></a></p>
