We are standing beside a large lake. The sun has recently set above the wooded far shore. The sky is a deep twilight blue streaked with clouds: orange and gold tinted along the horizon and bright pink above, mirrored on the lake below. We are standing beside a patch of tall lush green grass along the near shore. It is speckled with red violet wildflowers. There is a darker green bush beyond, right on the shoreline.

September 13, 1983: After Page Pond, the AT scaled steeply up to Wocket Ledge, where open rock faces just off the trail provided the best southward views I had yet seen in the Mahoosucs.

We are standing on the shore of a large mountain pond looking out between two trees and over some low shrubs. There are large boggy patches of water grass along much of the far shoreline, the lake and bogs are surrounded by a beautiful spruce and fir forest. Two descending wooded ridges come together at a low point near the middle of the far shore, creating an opening through which we can see the tops of a lofty mountain range several miles away. The sky is a deep light blue with a few streaky clouds, except for a line of low clouds running across that mountain range and covering the summits.

Peer through the crowded branches of an overgrown green forest in the direction of a window of light, and you will spy the silhouette of a fancy hummingbird perched on a horizontal vine. The bird's long bill is lifted up and his ridiculously long tail ribbons are posed so that the terminal false paddles or butterfly wings are twirled to point in opposite directions. I've been feeding a family of badgers through the years.
Recently my trap cam caught 2 youngsters & the mum coming to the garden.
I braved the freezing night air to stand and watch last night, It was so amazing to see, only one turned up but I'll try again tonight, hopefully it'll be a full turn out

A Trilha da Copaíba é um percurso de 2,2 km, por dentro do Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque, no estado do Amapá, com início na base do ICMBio (Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade) até a Corredeira do Jenipapo. Ao longo do caminho, o visitante é guiado pelo guarda-florestal Valdeci Belo, profundo conhecedor das plantas, raízes, árvores, fungos e animais. Além da experiência com técnicas de sobrevivência na selva, Seu Valdeci tem uma verdadeira relação espiritual com a floresta amazônica.

* Trilha da Copaíba is a 2.2 km trial, inside the Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque, in the state of Amapá, starting at the base of ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation) to the Corredeira do Jenipapo. Throughout the path, the visitor is guided by the park ranger Valdeci Belo, a deep connoisseur of plants, roots, trees, fungi and animals. In addition to the experience with survival techniques in the jungle, Valdeci has a true spiritual relationship with the Amazon rainforest.
