Fascists are always just following orders
The saying goes: If you build it they will come.
The Trump/Republican saying goes: If you destroy it and turn it into just another shit hole country they will stay in their own country.
Defending Trump and Musk on my timeline is your right under free speech.
Just like outing you as a Nazi sympathizer is mine.
Trump tariffs are a smoke screen used to hide the ultra-quick and silent dismantling of the foundations of government, the legal system and the Constitution.
The more you know.
Analysis: Israel’s revised vision for Gaza - ever-smaller, ever more deadly concentration camps
Israeli journalist Yinon Magal reported:
"This time, the IDF intends to evacuate all residents" to a new enclosed humanitarian zone "for long-term stay."
"The IDF will not allow a rogue population to refuse evacuation this time."
"Anyone remaining outside the humanitarian zone will be implicated."
"This plan has American backing.”

The Oklahoman gives several even more disturbing details about US Senator Markwayne Mullin's violent remarks.
Excerpt #1: Mullin recorded the video from the flight of stairs where he says the shooting occurred. He says stains from the former lawmaker’s blood can still be seen on the stone steps.
After Mullin makes his statement about reporters, the person recording him zooms in to show the blood-stained stairs, and then the video ends. By noon Sunday, the video had been viewed more than 26,000 times, attracting more than 2,100 “likes.”
Excerpt #2: Mullin has drawn attention in the past for invoking violence during his time as a senator. In 2023, he challenged Teamsters leader Sean O'Brien to a fight and stood from his chair during a Senate hearing. He later defended his actions during an interview on Fox News.
#Google Is Helping the #Trump Administration Deploy #AI Along the #MexicanBorder
Google is part of a Customs and Border Protection plan to use machine learning for #surveillance, documents reviewed by The Intercept reveal.
by Sam Biddle, April 3 2025
Excerpt: "#IBM will provide its Maximo Visual Inspection software, a tool the company generally markets for industrial quality control inspections — not tracking humans. #Equitus is offering its #VideoSentinel, a more traditional video surveillance analytics program explicitly marketed for border surveillance that, according to a promotional YouTube video, recently taken offline, featuring a company executive, can detect 'people walking caravan style … some of them are carrying backpacks and being identified as mules.'
"'Within 60 days from the start of the project, real life video from the southern border is available to train and create #AI / #ML models to be used by the Equitus Video Sentinel.'"

Four foreign activists face #deportation from #Germany after Berlin #university sit-in
Story by Tamsin Paternoster, April 4, 2025
Excerpt: "The university's general students' committee said in October that the university had failed to 'capture the complexity of events.' The committee alleges that the police presence on-site was 'excessive' and that the law enforcement responded violently to the protesters in the broader context of suppressing similar demonstrations."

Some people* in my area are upset that the local League of Women’s Voters participated in the #HandsOff protest yesterday, because they are a non-partisan organization.
Being pro-democracy and anti-fascist used to be non-partisan. If it isn’t anymore, what does that say about their party?
*fascists
So, I'm mostly sharing this because reporting has been very spotty and if I didn't know better, I'd suggest a media class more afraid of people power than fascists are not particularly interested in sharing the news that millions (with an m) of Americans were out protesting the Trump Regime yesterday.
https://www.commondreams.org/news/hands-off-protests-april-5
Millions March Against Trump-Musk in Nationwide 'Hands Off' Protests
"Indivisible, one of the key organizing groups behind the day's protests, said millions participated in more than 1,300 individual rallies as they demanded "an end to Trump's authoritarian power grab" and condemning all those aiding and abetting it.
"We expected hundreds of thousands. But at virtually every single event, the crowds eclipsed our estimates," the group said in a statement Saturday evening.
"This is the largest day of protest since Trump retook office," the group added. "And in many small towns and cities, activists are reporting the biggest protests their communities have ever seen as everyday people send a clear, unmistakable message to Trump and Musk: Hands off our healthcare, hands off our civil rights, hands off our schools, our freedoms, and our democracy."
Look, are millions of people politely marching with witty protest signs going to topple the fascist Trump regime? No, probably not. Is it a problem that a lot of the people who marched yesterday are still wedded to capitalism and a free market fundamentalist worldview that's precisely how we ended up in a place where we're staring down a fascist dictatorship in progress? Yes, it probably is. Some of these people definitely aren't good at protesting, and don't have particularly good politics; some of them are even diehard Democratic Party partisans who intend to direct all this energy into elections in 2026 and 2028 that I've already said I don't think we have time to wait for, and I don't think are guaranteed to be real, unrigged elections anyway. It's not all gumdrops and lollipops; we're a very long way away from "shutting it down" or "becoming ungovernable" and I think realistically we're not going to see the end of fascism, let alone the capitalist order that's boiling our children like soup so rich nazis can keep extracting profit from our shared planet, until we see a lot more "be ungovernable" and "shut it down."
By that same measure however, putting millions of people in the streets to oppose the fascist regime and the billionaire white Afrikaner nazi who bought it, is certainly better than not doing that. Clearly some portions of the (upper class) media are spooked enough to minimize what happened here, and you know the regime is scared because their propagandists are already out here saying the (again, millions) of protestors were a paid psy-op and also working for Hamas, somehow. There is exploitable and extendable political capital here, and it would in my opinion be a bad idea for antifascists and anticapitalists to help the machine tamp down enthusiasm for taking the streets back from nazis. If this is just one day of protest, with the very narrow objectives of protecting social security and ending Musk's DOGE project to install what some call a "technofeudalist" order, then it's just a collection of nice memories. If however this is a beginning of something larger, just as the initial George Floyd protests against police violence were the beginning of something larger back in 2020, then there's a lot of work to be done here and an opportunity to help people getting ground up by the fuck barrel find solutions that actually work; both to remove the fascist regime, and change the fuck barrel world that birthed it. I can't predict the future of course, but I'd prefer to have the opportunity to see where this goes, than to sit quietly in my house waiting for the nazis to come and kill us one by one.
"It can't raid all the time, Eric...'

Good protest numbers are good - doubt you'd find any of us who disagrees with that. I don't agree with full stop though because that's an exclusionary statement & it's been used on disabled by ableists far too often. We are the ones who frontlined for years & we are now unable to join in because it is too unsafe & we are considered as shitdisturbers if we bring up that fact. It's also fascist adjacent to be OK with many disabled people feeling unsafe.
Please understand what we disabled folks have typed about why we can't go to huge events anymore & still feel safe at them. We feel the our choices have been taken from us because ableist society still rules over all.
#Ableism is directly connected to #fascism gaining more powers.
My friend's poster at yesterday's demo in S.F.
We should be demanding, organizing, and fighting for the abolition of billionaires, seizing their wealth, using it to provide free public services for everyone, a universal basic income, guaranteed housing, food, healthcare, not for a return to the shitty, pre-Trump status quo.

I'm seeing a lot of stories of ICE raids on small businesses - mom and pop bakeries, local roofing companies, and restaurants - but no stories about ICE raids on behemoth corporate meat processors such as Tyson Foods, Smithfield, etc.
I smell something rotten.
Super exciting and inspiring to see so many people out there yesterday. Truly historic numbers of participants. And in spite of my following comments, I think demos like these are critical. If nothing else, they show the world that we are not sheep, that we oppose the fascist regime. It gives the government a taste of how strong we can be. Large demos like these provide a forum for activists to communicate with each other, share ideas, agitate for more radical changes. And it is empowering to be part of large demos, particularly for those who haven't done it before, instilling some hope in these dark times.
But here are a couple of things to consider:
(1) "Hands Off" is a liberal, not a leftist, slogan, devoid of anti-capitalist critique. Consider that the posters included "Hands Off NATO." That piece suggests that at least some organizers and participants actually support imperialist wars and interventions. NATO is one of the most anti-working-class organizations there is. Its entire purpose (contrary to the propaganda) is to pit working-class soldiers against each other in order to protect existing, and acquire new, territory, markets, and workers for the benefit of capitalists.
(2) "Hands Off Medicare, Social Security, libraries, immigrants, trans folks, etc." are necessary and existential short-term goals. But, at best, success brings us back to the pre-Trump status quo, which wasn't particularly good for most working-class people, nor for members of most marginalized communities. We need to be demanding a lot more (which many activists at yesterday’s demos were calling for).
(3) Some of the posters demanded "Fair Elections." But what does this even mean in a representative democracy? Yes, the Republicans have certainly exploited gerrymandering, the electoral college system, and voter suppression to win elections, sometimes even in spite of losing the popular vote. In fact, there are some who think Texas, with the 7th & 8th largest African American communities in the country (Dallas, Houston), would vote blue if not for gerrymandering and voter suppression. But then what? We'd still just be voting for who gets to rule over us and those rulers would still be primarily rich people, whose interests and policies align much more with the CEOs and corporate bosses than with working-class people. If the past is any indication, Democrats would still be supporting Zionism & Genocide, government suppression of strikes and worker movements (e.g., the recent train strike), imperialist & NATO interventions abroad. We'd still have millions living in the streets and millions dependent on food stamps and food pantries. We'd still have snowballing climate change and a government hamstrung by its subservience to capital. Let’s not forget, under Clinton, a Democrat, we got NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, the anti-worker NAFTA, and an “End to Welfare as We Know It.” And under Obama we got drone assassinations of U.S. citizens living abroad and a continuation of Bush’s mass deportations and imprisonment of immigrant children.
Optimistically, there were many people at yesterday’s demos who ARE thinking about these issues and fighting for far more than just a return to the pre-Trump status quo. There were lots of anti-genocide signs and posters and solidarity with Palestinians. Many demanding bodily autonomy for all, including both access to birth control and abortion, as well as access to gender affirming care. There were many demonstrators calling for a General Strike, which has far more potential to achieve results than do mass demonstrations. (Direct Action gets the Goods!)
So, let’s continue with these large mass demos. But let’s also start organizing direct actions that hurt the rulers’ bottom line. And let’s also remember that the most enduring North American General Strikes (e.g., Saint Louis, 1877; Seattle, 1919; Winnipeg, 1919; Minneapolis, 1934) all involved incredible organization and coordination, including the delivery of free food to residents; worker control of policing and emergency services; shutdown of corporate media and worker control of mass communication; worker control of transport and shipping.
