Yes, I do. I very much enjoy writing "descriptive" scenes. You see, I'm a Charles Dickens fan. Yeah, so sue me. I know very well that "descriptive" scenes cause the action to stop, so if it is going to be purely descriptive it had better bring in all the senses, serve a higher purpose in the story, and enchant the reader. When I can, I try to weave dialogue and action throughout the "descriptive" scene to carry the reader's senses along with the action. It's really a balancing act, and more often than not, some of it gets cut during revision.</p><p>This calls for a brief <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/excerpt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>excerpt</span></a> of a "descriptive" passage with a lot of important information for the novella. (1st draft.)</p><blockquote><p>I looked at him and met his eyes. He immediately warped his free wing around me and, with his free arm, scooped and rolled me until I was on his chest, held up by his hands on my shoulders. Clothed by his snowy ruby-tipped feathers, he held me thus. His breath on my face cooled it. Scents of garlic and onions reminded me of the mushroom stew we'd shared for lunch... but his heart raced as he breathed deeply, and it <em>distracted</em> me. I took a moment to breathe in the scent of his perspiration and felt suddenly protected. He called holding me motionless like this, staring into his blue eyes, <em>centering</em> me. Something men learned in <em>Men Studies</em> to deal with the opposite sex, so I was told. I liked him <em>dealing</em> with me. It felt special. There was a reason I was greedy.
