Things are starting to fail on my 12-year-old dSLR (a Canon 5D Mark III), and when downloading the firmware update I noticed that the model is no longer supported. Might be time to splurge on a new, mirrorless one. My birthday is in July ... #camera #photography #canon #dslr

I know new fangled mirrorless cameras can track birds so it makes in-flight shots and bird photos in general a piece of piss, but I tweaked the settings on my DSLR and it tracked this magpie through the OVF in low light (this was as the sun was setting) on a busy background and while it flew behind some branches. ISO was about 1 million so I had to denoise, but this was an Auto Focus test (it worked!) #BirdPhotography #CanonDSLR #DSLR #Photography

Finally, back on the ground, and walking around there were a few quirky monuments around, such as this #MagneticMine, the likes of which were used during #WorldWarII.
From this high up, you can see some transformations for the good that are taking place, like this array of #SolarPanels that has been installed. Such collective action is helping to transform the way electricity is generated in the UK. On a sunny day like this, #SolarEnergy can provide more than a third of the power needs of the country, even outstripping #WindEnergy generation.
The lowest observation level of the #SpinnakerTower features a #GlassFloor for those who dare to stand on it and see how high up they’re standing. I must confess to having fear of heights but I did manage to stand in the middle of the glass deck and look down.
The #NavalBase is still active, and here are two of the #UK's new #AircraftCarriers being fitted out.
The platform wonderful affords views the #land and the #sea almost all the way around. Here, for example, you can see a #PassengerFerry bound for the Isle of Wight, which can be seen across the strait (the #Solent). The town on the over side of the bay is #Gosport.
From this vantage point, the back of the #SpinnakerTower can be seen.

The tower is 170 m tall with three #ObservationDecks, the lowest of which is 100 m hight. I have to say that my wife was a little underwhelmed by the structure until, that is, we got up to the first #ObservationPlatform. A clue is that dark rectangle you can see on the underside.
#Portsmouth is famous for its #naval traditions and has a #RoyalNavy base there, which goes back several centuries. Some old naval #ships have been restored and are open to the public, such as #HMSWarrior here.
Proud of my daughter - along with another pupil she was the school photographer for their High School Musical performance yesterday.
She's already doing a photography GCSE from this September coming, and I think she might be asking for a DSLR camera for Xmas.
If you love photo shooting in RAW and tinkering with every single possible parameter in your image, you have absolutely ✱zero✱ reason to use Lightroom.
There are several fantastic open-source alternatives, my favorite of which is RawTherapee: https://www.rawtherapee.com/
RT is an absolute beast of features, and it comes with a ton of classic film simulations (+ it offers the abilty to create new ones yourself).
