I love open world games, I love the freedom to explore. But it does create some narrative dissonance for sure...

#LegendOfZelda #BreathOfTheWild

Game: Link! You must save the Princess and Hyrule from Calamity Ganon!
Me: BRB scaling mountains and finding koroks

#XenobladeChroniclesX

Game: We must find the Lifehold core and save humanity!
Me: probes go brrrrrr.

#CassetteBeasts

Game: I mean, maybe we should probably find a way off this weird island and return home.
Me: I made a Doggo friend, and they are precious, I will fight anyone who doesn't want to fuss them!

I finished the main story of #cassettebeasts in about 30 hours. It is such a vibe, in a good way, with all the individual character stories, and the music is great. The battle mechanics are interesting, but I made a guy auto-attack with one of the strongest moves multiple times at the start of every battle, and then stopped exploring the game space. #indiegame youtube.com/watch?v=5c7sX1OiEp

I will say I'm loving the monster moves they've come up with, though. My favorite thing is when games have super intricately interacting abilities that I get to play with :D

Just me over here setting up a combo where all of my monster's attacks hit the entire party twice every turn, then refunds all the AP used to cast it :D #CassetteBeasts #Gaming #RPG

So far my biggest complaint about #CassetteBeasts is that it has Open World Disease -- everything's either comically overpowering or weak as a kitten.

Has anyone *really* ever solved this problem? Like, on the one hand, using level scaling makes actually leveling kind of moot. You're never stronger than anything. On the other hand, wandering around alternately steamrolling or getting my ass beat by monsters is... Not great either. #Gaming #RPG
