Hey, did you know that today is #FrogFriday ? To celebrate, I present to you Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas) seen here enjoying a swim in a shallow creek in the mountains on Vancouver Island.
To take this photo, I had to lie down across a muddy trail because I wanted to be at eye-level with this beautiful creature. Hikers had to step over me, confused by my odd behaviour.
Grab your camera and enjoy spring on Vancouver Island! Limited to 3 persons.
Spring is an active season that provides lots of great photo opportunities as the landscape don new colours in multiple shades of green and the snow melt swells streams to form beautiful cascades in the lush rainforests.

Current situation on Vancouver Island: the salal is wearing its spring colours, the sun is shining, and birds are singing their little hearts out.
A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) along the shores of the Capilano River in North Vancouver, British Columbia. I made this photo quite a long time ago and was experimenting with shutter speeds. The slows shutter speed won in that contest. Herons are one of the few birds that would have been still long enough for me to pull this off!
I’m in #infosec. I currently live in #NovaScotia but moving to #BritishColumbia this summer.
I have many dogs. They’re all small, one so small she only has three legs. She was injured before we got her out of the Texas rescue system. I learned these doggos are called #tripawds which I think is very clever.
My main “hobby” is #motorcycling. I currently have a Vulcan Nomad 1700.
I have worked remotely from my house for almost a decade. The life balance can’t be beat.
For #WaterfallWednesday I have this photo taken last week when I was mentoring the 16 year old student from Surrey. This creek is completely dry in the summer. The best time to photograph it is now. It is located in a place known as Xwee Xwhya Luq by the K'ómoks people, in what is called today Courtenay.
I have just created new cards that I put on community boards all over the island. What do you think? Which one do you prefer?
These are screenshots of the cards.
A great book on plants in BC https://harbourpublishing.com/products/9781550179453
Not only offers identification, but the cultural (Cowichan) use, and mythology, makes it a wonderful experience to read, and links to plants identified on hikes in BC. Got my copy on a torrential rainy day from the Egmont museum https://maps.app.goo.gl/HEN5vGXKDVPADoN4A #pnw #botany #history #britishcolumbia
We interrupt your regular program for a photo of the current situation on Vancouver Island where the moss has taken over the trails and trees. Feel free to close your eyes and imagine that you are walking barefoot on cushiony moss.
