If you made a list of things that could advance the field of science, having a mouse watch “The Matrix” and “Star Wars” probably wouldn’t make it to the top. And yet, scientists recently were able to map and render into a 3D atlas a small portion of a mouse’s brain about the size of a grain of sand. The results were a revelation. “"A millimeter seems small, but within that millimeter there are kilometers of wiring," Jacob Reimer, a neuroscientist at Baylor College of Medicine said. Live Science · Scientists built largest brain 'connectome' to date by having a lab mouse watch 'The Matrix' and 'Star Wars'By Kamal Nahas

200,000 brain cells in a volume of 1 cubic mm.

"Researchers have created the largest and most detailed wiring diagram of a mammalian brain to date, by mapping cells in a cubic millimetre of a mouse’s brain tissue. In a landmark achievement, the diagram also details the activity of individual neurons on a large scale ― a neuroscience first."

New ‘wiring diagram’ traces millions of brain connections
Researchers say they’ve accomplished a feat that was said to be impossible 46 years ago: mapping the cells in a cubic millimeter of brain tissue and tracing their activity.

The achievement, documented today in a set of research papers published by the Nature family of journals, is being c

Autism and the Predictive Brain Absolute Thinking in a Relative World by Peter Vermeulen, 2022

What if our previous teachings and beliefs regarding processing stimuli, reading emotions and understanding human behaviour is all untrue? In this book, Peter Vermeulen investigates new findings on the predictive brain and what these insights mean for autism and current interventions.

Have you ever had food poisoning and subsequently been unable to eat whatever caused it? A team of neuroscientists studying mice have found the exact “memory hub” in their brain that is responsible for this reaction. Our @ScienceDesk shared the story from @PopularScience.

In 1990, George Franklin was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison based on the testimony of his 28-year-old daughter Eileen. Her memory of the murder was relatively fresh at just one year. But the murder happened 20 years earlier. According to the prosecution, Eileen repressed her memory of the murder. Then much later she recovered it in complete detail. The case launched a huge debate between memory researchers who argue there is no credible scientific evidence that repressed memories exist and practicing clinicians who claim that repressed memories are real.
