electragician<p>OK, now wait a minute. How the heck am I just using neofetch for the 1st time on Project Bluefin. The distro image it shows literally made me laugh out loud.<br><br>Also, **this** is why I run Linux. This laptop that I'm on right now was a mid-range "gaming laptop", back in 2018. I still use it daily, and I haven't upgraded it because I just don't need to. At 7 years in, it's **still** blazing fast at day to day tasks under Linux. It's stupid fast on Bluefin.<br><br>I don't game much anymore, but I do play some indie stuff occasionally (big fan of Spiderweb Software's games, stuff like that). It still works fine for that too.<br><br>I suspect that one day it will just break, as things do, and if the repair isn't super easy, I'll just go buy another "gaming laptop" and hope to get nearly 10 years from it before it dies. Probably something with a bigger screen, as I use this one as a desktop replacement.<br><br>I buy used laptops (T-14 for $200 from ebay, etc...) for actual mobile computing.<br><br><a href="https://electragicians.space/tags/bluefin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bluefin</span></a><br><a href="https://electragicians.space/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Sam<p>Today (and late last night) I made my very own Linux distro. Well not really, but also kind of…</p><p>Are you a Linux nerd that has to run Ubuntu at work because of Intune compliance, but would rather run the latest in cool immutable developer focused Fedora variants?</p><p>Well then, lucky you, you’re the very niche market for my slightly tweaked version of Aurora.</p><p><a href="https://github.com/cablespaghetti/aurora-corporate-edition" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/cablespaghetti/auro</span><span class="invisible">ra-corporate-edition</span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.running.cafe/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://social.running.cafe/tags/ublueaurora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ublueaurora</span></a> <a href="https://social.running.cafe/tags/ublue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ublue</span></a> <a href="https://social.running.cafe/tags/bluefin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bluefin</span></a> <a href="https://social.running.cafe/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fedora</span></a></p>
witch<p>so... who is <a href="https://goo.dgirl.gay/tags/bluefin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bluefin</span></a> for?</p><p>because people tout it as the distro for everyone... and when you go to the website, it's just some developper stuff, cloud native and so on. stuff that quite frankly, means nothing to me. i'm really annoyed by all these projects that are supposedly awesome because they're written in rust, are "cloud-native" or whatever, i'm sure its cool, but when looking it up, all i get are technical explanations that are meaningless to me.</p><p>sometimes, it genuinely feels like a lot of open source projects, especially around linux, are complicated just for the sake of it. i wish i coud have a distro that doesn't assume i'm a pro dev or sysadmin or whatever, while also being up to date and actually functional. and supposedly, this is it? well, it doesn't feel like it.</p><p>i watched <span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@thelinuxcast" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>thelinuxcast</span></a></span>'s video on it and while i still don't get it... he nails it when he talks about the fact that bluefin's marketing is its biggest issue because, damn, i am completely lost. :neofox_drowsy:</p>
