🐌 Doing some research on 🤖 #LLM #bot protection for our selfhosted services. We had multiple downtimes per week for last few months mostly due to crawlers DDOSing our #gitea service which brought the whole server to its knees (running more than 15 web services). It would be nice to hand out invoices for our devops work...

Anyways #askFedi what kind of protection would you recommend? We're opting for solution that's quick and easy to implement and lightweight.

Bit of a random question, but if anyone knows the answer to this, it'll probably be someone (or some folks) on fedi :FediverseSymbol:

The problem involves using the Steam Link android app to stream a game from a Windows 11 host :SteamIconLogo: :Windows_11_Logo:

The problem is that if the game is loaded on any monitor with scaling >100%, the mouse co-ordinates are offset 🫤

The issue can be worked around by reducing the scaling on any such monitor to 100%, but it's not a viable option for me sadly for accessibility and productivity reasons.

We believe the issue could be resolved if Steam Link were to call the SetThreadDpiAwarenessContext function, which we've reported to Valve, but we're not expecting an acknowledgement or answer any time soon.

Anyone been able to resolve the issue without reducing scaling to 100%?

Pretty sure the issue can also occur with folks playing mouse-requiring games via Remote Play on a Steam Deck on a host with scaling set to >100%.

Poll question for the types of Fedizens that think a guy might want to chat with them at a bar *and* that *would* chat with this hypothetical guy under the right conditions:

Would you be more or less likely to chat with a dude at a bar if he had brought cool toys with him?

Bonus question for the comments: (serious answers) best and worst toy(s) a guy could bring to the bar to get you to chat with him.

Ok, for my peace of mind, please settle this:

Do you know who Tipper Gore is?

(don't google)

If the name rings a bell but you're not sure exactly, please select "I don't know".

Here’s a specific question:

A friend has an autistic son about age 11. One of his special interests is building his own computers from parts. But he’s just hit the upper limit of what he can figure out on his own.

Where would you look for support? Ideally like a computer hobbyist / maker / nerd who could consult with this child and help him along? Like a build-your-own-PC tutor?

Back in the day there were “computer clubs” like the famous Homebrew Computer Club. I’m not even sure if groups like that exist anymore. 🤷‍♂️

Thank you!

How often do you pick the wrong option on a Fedi poll?

Please read carefully before answering.

Does anyone know of any good laptop spots in #York or #Leeds? I don't have many needs, just somewhere to plug in and work quietly for a few hours, preferably without spending much money. Doesn't have to be central. I plan to try my local and semi-local public libraries first and see how I do, but advice would be very welcome. Thanks. :)

Does anyone know of a #PeerTube server that approves new account registrations quickly? I wanted to try out the 7.1.0 user account interface so I signed up with the top 5 servers. It's been over a week and none of the servers have approved my registration request yet.

I'm looking online for detailed instructions on how to use hypoclorous acid to disinfect laundry -- especially sheets and bedding -- and I'm coming up empty.

I realize you can spray it on fabrics but I don't have space to spray entire bedsheets.

I'd like to add it directly to a laundry batch. I'm trying to find out how much to use. The HOCl I have is 200ppm.

Anyone here use it for laundry?

#AskFedi Does anyone have good recommendations for a #linux software/software pipeline I can use to tile a single svg image into a 4x4 grid of tiles for printing?

So far, I've hacked it with a random html file or with PDF mix tool to turn it into 16 pages that I then print out with Firefox's 16 pages per page mode, but I'd like to have a better trick to do it the third time that comes up. 😅

I thought I remember reading that low red blood cell counts could be related to ME/CFS. But when I web search, all I can find is that ME/CFS might be correlated with deformed red blood cells.

Does anyone know where I can find reference information, if I'm remembering correctly, so I can share with my physicians?

Thanks!

Merci !
