JJ Celery<p>My dear sysadmin Federati with home labs and internal networks!</p><p>Our internal network has grown and now we want internal DNS resolution for local network stuff. It's a combo of bare metal and docker services, mostly from one host but not limited to it.</p><p>I really, really don't want to touch BIND again so I'm in a bind (badum-tss) and looking for suggestions. Any Linux based / containerised options for DNS on LAN? </p><p>Suggestions and boosts welcome!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/SysAdmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SysAdmin</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/AlwaysDNS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AlwaysDNS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/BIND" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BIND</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/DNS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DNS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/LAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LAN</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/HomeLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeLab</span></a></p>

Norman Wilson<p>Today in it's not <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/AlwaysDNS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AlwaysDNS</span></a>: it was some combination of <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/systemd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>systemd</span></a> and the incomprehensibly complicated dbus services underlying the Linux desktop architecture (from the people who brought you systemd, naturally).</p><p>But at least I found the answer: block yet another systemd --user service by creating a symlink to /dev/null in /etc/systemd/user, and now unsnapped <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> no longer stalls for 30 seconds every time it starts on <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> 22.04.</p>
