New map app recommendation: Organic Maps - https://organicmaps.app/ - Available for Android and iOS. It is a privacy preserving Maps.Me fork providing users with beautiful vector tiles for offline maps and navigation. This is my favourite way for using #OpenStreetMap on a smartphone!
The #OpenStreetMap Foundation #OSMF now offers a file management and collaborative writing platform based on #Nextcloud: https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/xamanu/diary/396501.
We are happy that our FOSS report recommendation has been heard and accepted - @openstreetmap got it's own @nextcloud instance: https://osmfiles.cloud68.co - ping us if you need an account.
#Mapbox has done great work developing Open Source standards and tools for map vector tiles! Some months ago, they decided to change the license for further development of the related JavaScript library, but fortunately the community took over and just released an official version 1.14.0 of #maplibre-gl-js https://github.com/maplibre/maplibre-gl-js/releases/tag/v1.14.0
Interesting report on the use of Free and Open Source Software #FOSS by the #OpenStreetMap Foundation #OSMF: https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/xamanu/diary/395615.
And #kudos to @rory for leading the pack on #Mastodon with the #OSM-oriented https://en.osm.town instance!
What hosted or self-hosted alternatives would you suggest they use ?
This masto instance was mentioned & recommended by the #OSMF's FOSS Policy Ctte!

#OpenStreetMap #OSM
The #OpenStreetMap Foundation is running a survey (in 13 languages!) to find out more about the #OSM community. It should only take a few minutes, and we'd greatly appreciate as many responses as possible., 🙂 (pls boost)
