Activism that avoids criticism of capitalism isn’t activism, it’s public relations.
@aral This reminds me that there's actually an awful lot of criticism of capitalism. But hardly any discussions or pushes for _replacements_ to capitalism.
I see only one possible alternative - anarcho-communism - but I also know I'm in the minority. And that's why I think the discussion of replacements is avoided - it seems there is no consensus on alternatives.
So criticism of capitalism is everywhere, and calls for replacements are nowhere to be found.

There are a lot of #anarchist models that have been effective on a small scale. The hard part is that everyone wants a single magic solution that allows them to ignore that complex problems will need complex solutions and many different thoughts of anarchism should be considered.
#capitalism has succeeded in colonizing every mind and I haven't any idea how to reverse that.

"#capitalism has succeeded in colonizing every mind and I haven't any idea how to reverse that."
Step 1; have a better idea.
Step 2 (and this appears to be the heavy lift for so many people); start your explanation with why your proposal is better by actually being honest about what capitalism is.
@AlexanderKingsbury @contrapunctus @aral
Step 2 is a heavy lift because of all the myths that are believed deeply. It's been shown a disastrous amount of times that giving people facts doesn't work. You need to fight feelings with feelings and I've always tried to live more logic based and don't succeed often in the appeal to emotion approach.
@hackersquirrel @contrapunctus @aral
Whether or not people reject facts does not make step 2 a heavy lift. You can present facts quite easily, whether others accept them or not.

I used to view Anarcho-Communism as a viable alternative to capitalism, but I've long since abandoned it. A post-capitalist society will need a state to repress counter-revolutionaries and prevent the restoration of capitalism. After reading "On Authority" by Friedrich Engels, along with other books such as Lenin's "State and Revolution," I became convinced that a Marxist-Leninist socialist state is the most viable alternative to capitalism.
@Radical_EgoCom @contrapunctus @aral
All of the attempts so far of Marxist-Leninist systems have led to authoritarianism. Any Hierarchical system will do this whether it's left or right.
I like Marx but I hate Marxism. Just like the argument that #capitalism is the best of all worst choices. The idea that society is impossible without hierarchy is suspect.
