When I started mapping the first additions in the OsmaAnd app for Openstreetmap at the end of 2015, I never thought I would make 1 million changes. Entered in OsmAnd and then in Potlach2 (because it was beginner-friendly). Then later iD and other apps. Like Mapcomplete, Streetcomplete or Everydoor. 1
I can only recommend just getting started.
@SeeandMap what site is this screenshot from?
@SeeandMap How did you manage 110000 changes per year? Or nearly exactly 300 changes every day for 9 years 3 months? Quite an achievement!
@drdelle
I was also very surprised by the figure and thought I had miscalculated at first. I usually travel 4-5 months a year. Then I use different apps. A walk around the campsite or a look from the hotel room and you've already got 20 or 30 edits. Then a walk down the street with window shopping. Stops along the way at viewpoints or rest areas, of course. Or in the city from the bus or tram.
Or I take pictures and map later. I have learnt through OSM to walk with my eyes open.
@drdelle
In winter, instead of watching TV, I sometimes look at new pictures on Wikimedia and link them to OSM. You can usually find even more POIs to map on the photos. But I map over 80% on site and the rest from Wikimedia, Wikidata and maybe 1% from newspapers or newsletters. There is always more to map than I have time for.
