There has been a lot of interest within about the best way to map hydrological networks and particularly if continuity should be kept through lakes.

The map shows progressive stages of pruning a straight skeleton of a couple of lakes retaining lines linked to outflows.

A pattern of blue lines connecting all inflowing streams and rivers and the outflowing river for two lakes in the English Lake District. Fainter lines show progressive steps from the starting straight skeleton.

Should confess that other lakes have lots of circular loops (there's one in Crummock Water) around islands. Currently I'm not pruning these out.
