First real editing session of 2024: nothing major, just some landuse and other minor details.

Let's see if I can keep this going for some time: added some more sidewalks and landuse. Shame that OSM carto doesn't render natural=shrubbery.

Day 3: Sidewalks
Instead of focusing on a small area I tried adding all sidewalks, as well as sidewalk information to roads. After doing that all roads have sidewalk information, instead of only 3, and as for the sidewalks themselves I made a small map.

Robin van der Linde

Day 4 (just): Tried to map a bit more details around this bus stop. Unlike most stops in the area it doesn't have bicycle parking,a shelter or a bench, so mapped some more details around the fuel station instead, like the car wash, charging point and some advertising.

Day 5: did some mapping around a shopping center, added all missing opening hours and websites (for the shops that have it), as well as parking spaces, landuse, sidewalks and some more details.

Day 6 (again, just): Not much today just some details around a bus stop: converted the bicycle parking to an area, added some trees and landuse, and added a missing shop.

Day 7: parking
Tried to convert every parking node to a way, as well as add any missing ones. In total I ended up converting 28 nodes to ways, adding 65 new ones and editing about 17 ones.

Day 7 (bonus):
While editing parking noticed this missing bridge geometry

Day 8:
Not much today, converted a building node into a way and reworked some (residential) landuse. Also a small comparison of residential area before and after I started mapping, still lots to do...

Day (9 &) 10:
Added some residential landuse where it was missing and some minor details like street lamps, driveways and surface information.

Also did some mapping yesterday, but adding reference numbers to bus stops isn't the most visual thing (like mentioned before: (en.osm.town/@SeeandMap/1117115)

Day 11:
One of those changesets which looks like 10 minutes of work, but ends up being 90 minutes..

Day 12 (sort of):
Always fun trying to get detailed landuse for mixed-use buildings, also came across an interesting one for tagging: a shop selling (ethically sourced) animal hides (now tagged as shop=interior_decoration).
Also one of the reasons why I love mapping, you see something new every time.

Day 13 and 14:
Different place for this time, a small nearby village. Finally aligned most of the roads, some were off by about 5m, polished up the landuse and did some other minor touch-ups. Also spotted this interesting 'bridge'-like road near the start of a 30-zone, almost looks like traffic calming.

Day 15:
Different place again, found a desire path that has been paved with grass pavers, but not updated in official maps.

Day 16 (only slightly late): Added a photo to a parcel locker using @MapComplete (botsin.space/@mapcomplete/1117)

Still one the easiest ways of editing POIs like this and adding photos on the go in my (slightly biased) opinion

Day 17: Mapped out some residential landuse, some driveways and found a cycleway, which is actually a generic path.

Day 18 and 19: Added a penny press and a large waste bin using @MapComplete . Creating the penny press theme was mostly incidental because I found some mapped in while looking for vending machines. Completely revived my collecting hobby...

Day 20: Continuing (back) on the theme of day 17, some residential landuse, some trees and a few driveways.

Days 21-28/Week 4:
Have still been mapping every day, this week, so here's a summary:

Some of it was fixing of mistakes of the previous days (en.osm.town/@RLin/111793248624), fixed some local bus routes (one of which as wrong for more than a year), restored and set some bus stops to disused and did some actual mapping in-field mapping using and @MapComplete .

Today did some more details on a local industrial area. Bit tired, forgot to take a before screenshot this time...

Week 5 & 6:
First week to actually miss a day, although I did meet my personal goal of mapping every day for a month, but anyway a small summary:

- Mapped some details at bus station Uden with @MapComplete and (I might do some more, it's actually a quite nice bus station)
- Fixed bus line 4 in Meppen, which is wrong in the official journey planner and Google Maps :googlebad:
- Mapped some more disused bus stops (there are quite a lot in my area)

(1/2)

And today I mapped some of the remaining details of P+R Reitdiep, which turned out to be a massive pain, due to the curved parking spaces...

Extra photo of the road from ground level.

@RLin
.... The icon on the left of the mapcomplete advertising theme screenshot.... Looks like a arm/hand giving a middle finger and now I can't unsee it xd

@RLin ooh, I love the detail of mapping the walkway as being under a roof. I'm totally going to show off OSM to whoever is with me if I ever get an opportunity to use this for finding the optimal (least rain) path in an unfamiliar place :D

@RLin
If you add something you can see it, if I add Wikidata, Wikimedia or Wikipedia you can't see anything on the maps 😀

@RLin Looks very nice! :)

I did always wonder what the purpose of mapping individual spaces is, though. For disabled spaces it makes perfect sense, but for the default run-of-the-mill parking holes inside of a lot, is there a specific data consumer that can make use of this (like self-driving vehicles one day perhaps?) or is it mainly for aesthetics?

@luc In this case it's mostly for aesthetics, though it can be nice seeing where there are disabled spaces or charging spaces. Looking at Taginfo for projects using the tag mainly shows @MapComplete, for which I'm actually working on adding rendering for some more types.

@RLin Well, it is thanks to you that MapColplete has support for parcel lockers - not to mention all your other contributions in the past year!

@RLin Very nice work, keep it up! If I may make one remark, when having sidewalks as separate paths, make sure to connect it to the rest of the infrastructure at every intersection. For example, the footpath going between Wenakkers and Anlooërweg is not connected to the footpath going to the bus stop. And a bit to the east it's not possible to cross the road to the commercial zone, while the cycling path is connected.

@pbb Good catch! I think I should have fixed most of them by now. There are now 23 'footway=link' paths mapped, which seems reasonable to me, considering how many driveways are linking the sidewalk to the road.
