Direct/private messages are NOT end to end encrypted on #mastodon, don't use it for anything sensitive - https://microblog.shivering-isles.com/@sheogorath/105374055398321836
You'll have to manually encrypt messages using pgp or something if you want #privacy on DMs. If you're concerned about this, just try to let the #devs know. An ideal solution would be to implement e2ee on the #activitypub protocol itself, so that all #fediverse platforms and future platforms get it. This way, even cross-platform DMs would be encrypted.
The @firstname.lastname@example.org foundation has 4896 members. Can we get 5000? It's £15 to join, and if you've mapped a lot, you can also join for free. Help keep the free map running independently, influence the direction of the project, support our volunteers. https://join.osmfoundation.org
You can form a discussion group on the Fediverse using Guppe, a new service at:
You can follow a group's posts by following its account, and take part in the discussion by mentioning that account in a message.
You can also start a new group by mentioning it in a message.
You can see a list of existing groups on the site at https://gup.pe

Hi scholar.social, Hi fediverse!
Mark here from Delft, Netherlands. I just started a PhD to research socio-technical enablers/inhibitors of software testing. In the next 4 years I will look into how and why developers do (not) test software. I am particularly interested in the social dimensions of this which is why I'm also curious to learn more about ethnographic research methods.
Looking forward to be a part of the scholar.social community to connect and share insights!
You can help the #Fediverse by donating to the platforms it runs on:

- Support artists on the Fediverse by commissioning a new mascot for Metabolist each month
- Commission some nice assets and app icons
- Recover operation costs (hosting the push notification relay server, CrowdIn, etc)
And while we are on the topic of updates: just updated the #openstreetmap stats here https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Stats#Contributor_statistics_reports seems as if March 2021 with over 54'000 active contributors broke the previous record of 53'000 from January 2017
